The Incredible Versatility of the RH25V2

28th Jul 2025

The RH25V2 (RICO MICRO V2 640) is more than just a thermal optic—it’s a complete toolset in one rugged, compact package. Designed to serve as a clip-on, a standalone weapon sight, a handheld monocular, or a helmet-mounted scanner, the RH25V2 offers a level of flexibility that few devices can match. For hog hunters, predator callers, and tactical professionals, this kind of all-in-one performance is a game-changer.

Performance That Starts With the Core

At the heart of the RH25V2 is a 640×480 thermal sensor with a 12-micron pixel pitch, powered by InfiRay’s advanced MATRIX III processing. The V2 model improves on the original RH25 in several critical ways, including a faster 60Hz refresh rate and enhanced thermal sensitivity rated at ≤15 mK. That means smoother motion when scanning and clearer contrast when detecting game animals in thick brush or challenging environments. Whether you're tracking a sounder of hogs through a creek bottom or trying to pick out a coyote in tall grass, the RH25V2 delivers crisp imaging with real-time clarity.

Glass, Display, and Field of View

The RH25V2 is equipped with a 25mm f/1.0 germanium objective lens and a manual focus system that allows you to quickly adapt to your shooting distance. The display is a large-format 1440×1080 AMOLED, offering significantly more screen real estate and clarity than the original RH25. It provides a generous 45mm eye relief, which makes a noticeable difference when switching between helmet and weapon use. The 17.5° × 13.1° field of view provides an ideal balance between situational awareness and target identification, with enough digital zoom to identify targets out to 1,300 yards.

Built-in Recording, Connectivity, and Control

The RH25V2 comes with onboard photo and video recording, and it doesn’t stop there—it also features recoil-activated video with audio. This ensures that your best shots and key moments are automatically saved without needing to press record in the heat of the moment. With 64GB of internal memory, there’s ample space for long nights in the field. Integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth allow for app control and file transfer, while USB-C connectivity supports both data transfer and external power—perfect for long predator stands or night patrols.

Power That Keeps Up With You

Instead of relying on proprietary power systems, the RH25V2 uses standard 18650 batteries and ships with two high-quality Nitecore cells. Runtime per battery is around 5.5 to 6.5 hours, depending on settings and use. With the USB-C input, you can extend runtime indefinitely using a portable battery pack—especially handy for extended hunts or law enforcement operations that don’t have time for downtime.

Mounting Options for Every Mission

Out of the box, the RH25V2 comes with a recoil-rated mount that places the optic at a 1.93-inch co-witness height—ideal for flat-top AR-style rifles. For even more versatility, it can be used with the AC36 weapon mount or the AC52 “Pictail” mount, which combines a standard Picatinny rail with a Wilcox-style dovetail. This allows it to be seamlessly adapted for helmet use or clip-on configurations. When mounting as a thermal clip-on in front of a day optic, a 1.64-inch scope centerline height provides the best results. Thanks to the built-in collimation procedure, however, the unit can accommodate centerlines between 1.5 and 1.7 inches with reliable zero retention.

Works Best With the Right Glass

While the RH25V2 can be used in front of a red dot or holographic sight, it reaches its full potential when paired with a magnifier—like the EOTech G33 or SIG Juliet. These magnifiers enlarge the thermal image and move the eye relief behind the dot, offering a clearer, more comfortable shooting experience. The combination of a high-refresh thermal image and a quality magnified optic creates a smooth, precise aiming platform ideal for longer shots or fast follow-ups. The MICRO can also be paired with illuminated prism sights (an ACOG for example), and most commonly low power variable optics. The RH25V2 looks incredible in front of a 1-6 or 1-8x day scope.

Improvements That Matter in the Field

Compared to the original RH25, the V2 offers several meaningful upgrades: a smoother 60Hz frame rate, better low-contrast detection, a significantly larger and sharper eyepiece, extended battery life, and a more refined user interface. The weight has even been trimmed down slightly, with the magnesium-alloy body coming in at around 11.3 ounces.

The Thermal You Can Count On

The RH25V2 isn’t necessarily the best in every single category—it’s not the lightest helmet-mounted optic, and it doesn’t have the longest-range magnification. But that’s not the point. This unit is about balance and adaptability. It’s one of the few thermals that can go from a helmet mount to a rifle and then back into your hand—all without compromising performance. That’s why it’s a favorite among hog hunters, predator control experts, tactical teams, and rural law enforcement agencies.

When dealers ask what single unit they should always keep in stock, our answer is simple: the RH25V2. It’s tough, compact, in demand year-round, and capable of doing the job of three other optics—whether you’re mounting it to a helmet, a rifle, or just scanning a field for heat.
